Ancient Kunming
Kunming is the capital of Yunnan Province, China, which borders Southeast Asia, and is the political, economic, cultural, and transportation center of the province.
Kunming has a long history stretching across more than 2,300 years, and was registered as one of China’s famous historical and cultural cities in 1982.

The representation of culture in any location heavily hinges on its historical narrative, with heritage sites and monuments mirroring the traditions, art, and legacy of bygone eras.

Unfortunately, over recent years, these historical sites have faced a steady decline due to factors such as pollution, insufficient maintenance, and overwhelming tourism.
Preserving and interpreting these invaluable glimpses into the past is essential, and leveraging technology becomes crucial in safeguarding these historical treasures for the future. (DESAL, 2018)

Historical & Cultural Authenticity
I collaborated with local artists and the Kunming Tourism Bureau to ensure a respectful and authentic representation of my hometown Kunming's culture. This project aimed to focus on authentic storytelling, incorporating local traditions and history genuinely.

AR Realization with Artivive
One of the key challenges of this project is the integration of Augmented Reality (AR) technology, which is achieved by using the Artivive app. Readers can unlock a whole new world of engagement and interactivity with the illustrations in the book.

Creating Animation in Photoshop
I used Photoshop to create animation that was later applied to the Artivive app to enhance the storytelling experience.
Summary
Living with Old Kunming is my personal project that combines my hometown's local traditions and history with the aesthetic of Chinese landscape paintings.
It is an illustration book and also a tour guide that takes readers on an immersive journey into the past, allowing them to explore the rich cultural tapestry of Kunming.
